Sukumar Ray published Abol Tabol ("Gibberish") in 1923, days before his own death at 35, and gave Bengali literature its strangest, funniest, most quietly profound gift: a whole world built out of nonsense. Hybrid creatures with impossible anatomies wander through his verses, breaking every rule of biology and logic on purpose, because Ray understood something most children's writers miss — nonsense isn't the absence of meaning, it's a different, freer kind of meaning.
