    Description

    Caret Down

On 8th December 1930, three young men walked into Calcutta's Writers' Building to kill one officer — and gave a city square their names forever.

Binoy Basu, Badal Gupta, and Dinesh Gupta — B.B.D. — stormed the Writers' Building, the seat of British administration in Bengal, and shot Lt. Col. N.S. Simpson, the Inspector General of Prisons infamous for his brutality toward political prisoners. Cornered by British forces in the corridors that followed, Badal swallowed cyanide on the spot; Binoy and Dinesh turned their weapons on themselves rather than be captured. Binoy died of his wounds on 13th December 1930. Dinesh survived, was tried, and was hanged in 1931. Today, the very square where the Writers' Building stands is officially named BBD Bagh — the beating heart of central Kolkata, renamed after three men who were all under 23.

    Why wear it

Every day, thousands of Kolkata commuters pass through BBD Bagh without knowing whose names they're walking past. This tee puts the story back on the surface — three men, one mission, and a corridor that changed what a city square would be called forever.

    The piece

    • Oversized fit, heavyweight cotton, relaxed drop shoulder
    • Full-front illustrated print: B.B.D. portrait scene, Writers' Building corridor, name plaques and dates for all three
    • Colour: Black

    They'll ask. Tell them.
