THE SOUND BEFORE THE GODDESS ARRIVES
Before the idol. Before the pandal. Before anything — there is the Dhak.
The Dhak player walks in at dawn on Mahasaptami. His instrument hits the ground, his arms go up, and the neighbourhood wakes. Not to an alarm. To something older. The Dhak is not accompaniment — it is announcement. It is the sound that tells Bengal: she is coming.
This kurti carries that moment on cotton.
THE KURTI
The Dhak er Boli — the beat of the Dhak — is printed across the front of this white pure cotton short kurti in bold, ink-wash style artwork. The Dhak lies fallen at an angle, red paint splashed beneath it like the energy has spilled out of the instrument onto the ground. Above it, the red toran — the auspicious chandmala of Durga Puja — hangs from the right shoulder, its circular medallions and silk tassels trailing down in the classic Puja decoration style. The red footprints of the Devi press into the frame at the lower right.
Black, red, and white. The palette of shubho, of celebration, of Puja. Nothing more is needed.
THE PRINT
Every detail — the Dhak's body, the flying chaur, the toran's geometric medallions, the ink-wash red brushstroke — is reproduced through high-definition DTF (Direct to Film) printing using OEKO-TEX ECOPASSPORT certified inks. Independently verified to be safe against skin, free of harmful substances, and produced to international textile safety standards. On white pure cotton, the artwork reads exactly as it was drawn — no bleed, no softening.
THE FABRIC
100% pure cotton. Breathable, soft, structured. The fabric Bengali women have worn to Puja for generations — and the only fabric that can hold a red ink-wash print with this kind of clarity. White ground, natural feel, comfortable for the full stretch of the Pujas from Saptami through Dashami.
THE FIT
A short kurti — hip length, V-neck with collar detail, full sleeve, straight relaxed cut. Pairs naturally with white or off-white palazzos, cotton trousers, or plain salwar. The white-and-red colour story is Puja-native — it works with every pandal, every anjali, every adda.

WHO WEARS THIS
The Bengali woman who wears the Dhak er Boli Kurti knows exactly what the sound of the Dhak means to her body — the way it rises in the chest on Saptami morning, the way it makes ordinary streets feel like they belong to something larger. She wears this kurti to Anjali. To the pandal. To the family lunch on Ashtami. And when someone asks about the print, she says what every Smarteez buyer eventually says:
They'll ask. Tell them.
WEARABLE BENGALI HERITAGE
The Dhak er Boli Kurti is part of Smarteez's Durga Puja 2026 collection — limited editions for the Bengali woman who carries her culture with her, louder than any Dhak.
