THE STORY
In the villages of Pingla in West Bengal's Medinipur district, families of patua scroll painters have been telling the same story for five hundred years — the story of Bengal's folk festivals, its harvests, its dances, its processions. The pata scroll is not just a painting. It is a performance. The story unfolds as the scroll unrolls.
This couple set is that scroll. Worn together.
THE SET
The Folk Dance Patachitra Couple Set brings together two pieces that share the same visual world — the same Kalpavriksha, the same dancing figures, the same festival energy — on two different forms of Bengali dress.
The saree carries the full Patachitra narrative — a complete Pingla scroll painting composition across the pallu, with the sacred Kalpavriksha at the centre, folk dancers with arms raised in abandon, musicians in procession, figures of every age caught in the same moment of collective joy. A continuous band of dancing figures runs along the border so the story does not stop when the pallu ends.
The T-shirt carries the focal image from the same scroll — a male and female folk dancer in full movement, in the characteristic Patachitra palette of deep black, brick-red, and ochre-gold. The same visual language. The same folk tradition. The same Bengal.
When worn together, the two pieces tell a single story — the man carries the dancers, the woman carries the entire procession. The scroll is complete only when both are worn.
THE PRINTS
Every detail across both pieces — the curve of a dancer's raised arm, the individual leaves of the Kalpavriksha, the geometric precision of the border — is reproduced through high-definition DTF (Direct to Film) printing using OEKO-TEX ECOPASSPORT certified inks. Independently verified to be free of harmful substances, safe against skin, and produced to the most rigorous international textile safety standards.
THE FABRICS
The saree is woven on handloom in pure khadi cotton — hand-spun, naturally textured, breathable, structured in the drape. The white ground of hand-woven khadi gives the brick-red and black of the Patachitra a warmth and depth that machine fabric cannot match.
The T-shirt is premium cotton — soft, structured, with the weight that holds a large print without distortion. The same white ground. The same colour palette. The same visual register.

WHO WEARS THIS
The couple who wears the Folk Dance Patachitra Set does not need to explain what Patachitra is to the people who matter. At a cultural programme, at a Durga Puja committee gathering, at a literary evening — someone will stop, look at the saree pallu, then look at the T-shirt, and understand immediately that these two people are wearing the same story.
Someone else will ask: where did you get this?
Both conversations are the point.
