Description
কত প্রাণ হলো বলিদান — The Song Bengal Cannot Sing Dry-Eyed.
Some songs are sung. This one is felt — in the throat, before the first line ends.
Mohini Chowdhury wrote it, Krishna Chandra Dey set it to music, and generations of Bengalis have stood a little straighter every time it plays: "মুক্তির মন্দির সোপানতলে, কত প্রাণ হলো বলিদান — লেখা আছে অশ্রুজলে।" At the steps of freedom's temple, how many lives were laid down — it is written in tears.
This oversized tee gathers the ones the song was written for. Netaji at the centre, rising against the sun. Young Khudiram, who went to the gallows smiling at eighteen. Binoy, Badal and Dinesh in their suits, the trio who walked into Writers' Building itself. Masterda Surya Sen in white, the schoolteacher who raided an armoury. Behind them — the flags, the crowds, the building they refused to fear.
One song. One frame. Every name written in tears.
