Before there were photographs, Bengal had the patachitra — a painted scroll, unrolled frame by frame, while the patua sang the story. This saree borrows that idea and gives it a new subject: the five days of Durga Puja, told in a column of maroon panels running the length of the pallu.

Read it the way you'd read a scroll. The dhakis arrive, drums slung, the kaash plume bobbing above. Women stand in anjali before the Goddess, palms full of flowers. A ghot is set at her feet. Dhunuchi naach — a man and a woman, incense smoke curling from clay bowls. And at the bottom, where every Pujo ends, two women smear each other in sindoor — sindoor khela, the goodbye that looks like a celebration.

Each panel sits under a temple arch in deep maroon, figures picked out in ochre and cream, drawn in the flat-colour idiom of Bengal's folk painters. Between the frames, lotus stems in maroon and mustard climb the pallu; a lotus-and-line border runs the full length of the saree; the edge finishes in a handmade tassel trim.

The body stays clean white khadi, so the story on the pallu does all the talking.
