Description

Before Temples, There Was the Wall.

Long before pandals and idols, there was the mud wall — and the Warli hand that drew gods and spirits on it in nothing but white rice paste, in stick-thin figures and fearless geometry. This saree borrows that idiom and gives it a new subject: the Mahishasuramardini moment, the instant Durga becomes the slayer, told the way tribal art has always told its stories — direct, unornamented, alive with motion.

Read the pallu like a wall painting. Durga rides her lion, many arms raised, weapons in hand. Mahishasura charges, bull-horned and red, mid-leap. Around them, tiny dancing figures scatter across the field — the crowd, the witnesses, the everyday people who show up whenever the divine and the demonic collide. A zigzag-and-leaf border frames the whole drape, and fern-like sprigs scatter across the body in quiet counterpoint.

The body stays clean white cotton, so the story on the pallu does all the talking.

This is a printed saree — high-definition digital printing on soft, breathable cotton, reproducing every bold outline with precision and permanence. The art stays sharp. The drape stays effortless.

It is a saree for the woman who wants her Puja look to carry a little more myth, a little more fire.

  • Print: High-definition digital print — fade-proof, wash-stable, skin-safe. This is a printed saree, not embroidered or hand-painted.
  • Design: Warli-style Mahishasuramardini scene on the pallu — Durga, her lion and Mahishasura in red and black, with dancing figures, fern sprigs and a zigzag-and-leaf border.
  • Colour: White ground with red and black print.
  • Blouse piece: Not included.
  • Origin: Proudly designed and Made in India.

Style Tip

Let the print lead — a plain black or red blouse keeps the eye on the pallu. Oxidised silver jewellery (not gold) suits the tribal palette here. Pair with a plain white or black panjabi for him for a striking contrast look this Ashtami.

They'll ask. Tell them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What art style is this saree?
Warli, a tribal folk art tradition from Maharashtra, here depicting the Mahishasuramardini scene from the Durga Puja legend — Durga astride her lion, mid-strike against Mahishasura, surrounded by dancing tribal figures.
Is this saree printed or hand-painted?
It is a high-definition digital print on soft cotton, made from hand-drawn Warli-style artwork. It is not hand-painted or embroidered.
What's the difference between the Khadi Cotton and Mul Cotton options?
Khadi Cotton is thicker and more structured, giving the saree body and a traditional drape. Mul Cotton is lighter, softer, and slightly sheerer — a breezier choice for long Pujo days, without losing any of the pallu's detail.
Does it come with a blouse piece?
No, sold separately. A plain black or red blouse keeps the eye on the pallu.
How do I wash and care for it?
Hand wash separately in cold water for the first wash; gentle machine wash cold thereafter. Avoid harsh detergents on the print, and iron on reverse on low-medium heat, avoiding direct heat on the printed motif.
Does the colour run?
The first wash may show minor colour release; wash separately for the first 2–3 washes.
What occasions does this suit?
Puja mornings, pandal hopping, cultural programs, and festive gifting.
Can I return or exchange it?
Returns and exchanges are accepted strictly within 3 days of delivery, provided the saree is unworn and unwashed with tags intact.
